Swags are great, I used one heaps whilst living in Alice. Heavy duty canvas, great for the desert even in winter. Queensize, big foam mattress, you made it up with sheets, pillows and doona before you went out, then just rolled it up. Under the stars it was magic.
. . . and whats more, it would roll up to only about 75cm diameter, 1.5 metres longs and weigh about 35kg. Maybe you could have it couriered to your camping spot each night
