Mobile phones, Ipods, GPS units etc certainly do distract road users. I had the experience of sitting in Maddington Licencing Dept for an hour or so last year. I was absolutely horrified by the number of people who use an interpreter, social worker or relative to communicate with the staff behind the counter when applying for their drivers licence.
Another cause is our population is growing rapidly and we have a large amount of inexperienced drivers accessing the roads. Where there was once only 1 house on a block there are now 4 townhouses. The end result is more accidents overall.
What shits me is that when there is an accident involving a car & a bike on the news it is always announced that a motorcyclist collided with a car, never the other way around.
Rant complete.
