Lug it = Ride it at low RPM in 5th or 6th. Even though it will pull 5th or 6th easy at low RPM, you should let it rev - i.e. use a lower gear.
Ignore the 'not above 5500 RPM' crap as well. Don't flog it, but let it rev.
The trick is to let the engine warm up before you rev it too much - i.e. start it and ride off, but take it easy until the temp gauge starts to move.
