The Bose 901's had THE reputation too.
I used to use $600 moving coil cartridges around 10 years ago.
Seperate stepup transformer (pre preamp) required as well.
I used to block off my turntable with a wooden wall so the babay couldn't get near it!
Can be a veery expensive hobby HiFi.
I used to sneak my new equipment into the house and set it up before the boss noticed.
It got so bad that my wife spotted some new amp I had smuggled in and screamed "You've bought more f***ing hifi equipment" and started crying!

Dynaudio 3 way speakers ($2,500)
Naim Pre Amp ($600)
Naim main amp ($3000)
Linn Sondeck turntable ($1500)
Moving Coil cartridge ($600)
Cable ($500!)
