Lane splitting

I believe it's so much safer for us. get away from the traffic flow - leave it behind you, don't catch the lunatics in front of you, until they have stopped and do the same again. It gets us away from the melee of vehicles, all changing lanes - lots without indicating, leaving us in the clear with little or no traffic around us.

Gotta be happy with that.

It's illegal here in Canberra, but it's only the odd occasional copper who is having a crap day, who is going to have a go at you. Or a Traffic Copper - they just plain hate all of us equallyPi_tongue

Absolutely right Max, but there is no consideration of that, orso it appears. As I said at the start of the post, thought I'd ask the question because the guy I saw get pinched was doing it in a careful considered way. Just keeping himself ahead of the traffic. The thing that really amused me is while the plod had the good rider pulled over a sheila on some bloody noped thing wobbled through the middle of the traffic while it was still moving WITH ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OR JUDGEMENT and continued on past the PLOD. So it must be legal if you ride one of these microwheel death traps but not if you're on a sports bikeScary
It's a week by week charade.
