Hey Dave, we've thought about posting a map, but we're not organised enough to have a route yet. Every time we get together to talk through the trip, we end up hitting the booze and getting goofy. The first time, Simmo and Bruce came to Canberra and Les went invisible (which was pretty distracting), the second time I went to Sydney and it was Simmo's birthday which was similarly distracting!

I'm figuring we go up, then turn left, go along the top until we hit water then turn left again, head down until we hit water and turn (you guessed it) left, go to the other corner and turn left. If we just keep turning left, there isn't much that can go wrong. I'm not letting the boys navigate, you know what will happen, we'll get lost and no-one will stop to ask for directions.

We're hoping to post from the trip.

Sounds like a great plan, best advice is just get out there and do it. Make it up as you go.

Did we forget to mention that all three bikes will actually be doing the whole trip inside my trailer while we sit in the cab of the Volksy drinking bourbon from the fridge?

I did a bit of work on the K8 to get her ready for the big trip.

Yesterday I fitted
HID headlights to high and low beam
Buel foot pegs
Re upholstered seat
Heated handgrips
Ohlins rear shock
Helibars
GPS steering stem mount
Ventura rear rack

Today I have to fit
Hella micro HID driving lights
Waterproof power socket
Radiator guard
Clear plastic paint protection sheeting

Still to pickup and install
Sleepy hollow sheepskins
Headlight protector
42T rear sprocket
Throttle lock

Then she will be set to go

Maybe not in the tool kit ,but some good vizor cleaner, cause you'll probably need that every time you fuel up.

Sounds like your really well prepared Bruce.
I'm guessing and I bet that your hoping not to use very much of that ballast.
I'm trying to think of anything you should leave behind but in reality, you may need any or all of it.
Hope you can keep up with Simmo and Heidi out on the open road though and don't go blaming the K8 for poor performance.

Dont forget to take a GPS - something I learnt from bush riding but still applicable, never know when you might have to contact soeoen and give coords!
And charge your mobiles every night :)

I had a day off work yesterday so I decided to get the bike ready.

I applied the clear plastic paint protector, and failed. that stuff is TRICKY and I cut my hand with a stanley knife (twice). I also got out the Buell pegs to think about installing them, but after a conversation with Bruce, they are back in the box and possibly for sale. I pulled my shed apart looking for my other lower toothed sprocket and couldn't find it.

Yep, I'm right to go.

Bring the Buels to Sydney the Friday before we go and I will fit them it only takes half an hour.

I'm going to pick up a 2m by 2 meter tarp (make shift tent)
