where you in the intersection or just front wheel on the stop line? if you get a fine make sure you get the pictures sent to you aswel and if its horseshit and your not running the light then write a letter and if your claim is true that you were only just on the line you will be let off and if they dont let you off current affair will eat that shit up. but you should be right mate.

The lights don't activate on the white line. There is a sensor strip about 1 metre past the white line.

The system activates when the light has gone red and you then activate or deactivate the electrical field loop in the road (depending on set-up). The two photos are to show your movement over time to see if you have crossed the intersection or just moved a bit etc. It also allows calculation of speed, and sometimes the second is an evidence photo of the ensuing crash. I believe all photos are assessed before fines are issued so in your case you shouldn't get anything in the mail.
Keep in mind that red light cameras at least in QLD are going to be converted to digital starting 2009 so they get red lights and speeding through intersections. Once that starts, expect to see these revenue raisers on more and more intersections than just where they are now.

Thanks alot guys ... have made my week a lil less stressful
yep if u r stopped on the line you will be fine.
Very strange that it went off though (See what Busgo said)
Sounds like it may have been playing up or someone/thing else triggered it off.
Either way I will pay the fine if you get it.
I am that confident.

Hmm , i recall about 1 year back where they were going to introduce a fine even if you stopped over the line and reversed back ( not continued through the intersection) the technicality of it was that you have to stop BEFORE the white line - so if you cross it - you have gone past the white line therefore did not stop at the red light .....
let us know which way it goes

Hayabusa , If your not on one , your behind one .....
I got done at the beginning of the year for stopping over the white line with my REAR tyre and when asked about the law I was informed that the front tyre is generally fine, its when the whole rear that is over that count - at least on a motorcycle. It was counted in this instance as running a red light so I copped 3 points and a $220 fine.
When I argued that in the photo's it was pretty hard to see if my rear tyre was all the way over the guy mentioned that I could argue the point and then they would get me for lane splitting (which I was doing!) and pay a higher fine in the process. So I copped the lesser amount.
This was all in the ACT mind you, but I believe that they are very similar in a lot of respects to the NSW system. I reckon you will be fine but keep us posted!!
I was always under the impression that the red light cameras were activated by a sensor under the third white line (furthest white line into the intersection) & they worked on a delay from when the light actually goes red. It's not uncommon for those things to play up & just go off randomly. Should be right but if you get one make sure you get the pics like Dan85 said, that way you can use them to write a letter if need be.
