#1
Hey Troops looking for advice ,99 copper not starting and running.
Saturday turn over no dramas ,battery plenty of power, no fuel , yesterday new plugs , teaspoon of oil down cyclinders, flush tank remove rust , clean fuel stainer , new fuel hoses. Today couple of litres of fuel in tank , tried to start wouldnt turn over, didnt sound like the fuel pump turn on when turn key on, and flat battery. Took battery out of 2004 turn over still no fuel getting through, lifted tank , pour fuel into KN fuel and she fired up and started and ran then stop ,did same step again with fuel and filter started again, ECU clicking , do i need to replace fuel pump ,check fuses all good can i swap my ECU off 2004 to see if it makes any diffance to fuel pump or my ECU 99 is stuffed happy to try anything or will it stuff my ECU up 2004.

Try more fuel in the tank 1 st, gen ones 99 - 2000 also have a filter in the tank that needs pulling out & cleaning once & a while
Sometimes you can kink the fuel hose when you have had the tank up, if its not kinked next test there is power getting to the pump,

Hate to confuse you further mungaman, but my 99 was doing the same once. Turned out to be a relay switch of some sort on the left side under the rider's seat. Does that make any sense?

Paper clip in the dealer plug.

If its the pump/fuse/relay it'll bring up the code.

Mine was the relay.

I put the paper clip in the relay socket to test it
(the two heavier wires) and if then ran fine.

Aftermarket relays work fine but aren't a direct plug in.

Found relay swap relay over with the blinkers relay still no change , when i turn key on and off relay clicks , blinkres still work.

Hey Troops thanks for your input , try everything what you reckon , finally made a call think its the fuel pump , so if anyone got one sitting around that they can sell will be happy to buy if price is right.

One thing I'm not 100% sure on is the fuel pump years.
Pretty sure they changed between models but I'm not
sure which ones will fit yours and which won't. I'm sure
some of the tech heads on here will know.

There was a thread on the B-King forum about using
aftermarket pumps, with claims of it being better and
cheaper than genuine but its not something I'm clued up on.

Might be an option ?

Check the FI code, thats what its there for, so you don't have to guess

Fuel pump most times will not set off the code ,
Probably something real simple
White 4 pin connector , check the stickey for procedure and codes
