I have a RPM sinlge stage lockup with a Canadian Mike billet cover its not fitted yet till I get used to the turbo. Try Australian Drag Bike forum for advice.
Good luck on your race to the 8's

Hey Grant,
You really dont need to have a lock up to get into the 8's. All you need is heavy duty spring and the BTL done.

I know you guys are into a different league of clutches for drag runs. Ive been doing a bit of research on clutches just road use. and am wondering some say if you have BTL mod you need the HD springs and if HD springs you must have slave support, so question is for road use and welded btl do you have to have HD springs? Ive been without for life of bike so far.
On another point, I noticed they changed OEM spring sizes from the '99 to bit longer, i dont see on any fische the washers that came with the '99 springs, so am guessing install new springs without washers? But then the bolts are 2mm longer too, so will they fit ok in females on btl?

Volvi the Back Torque Limiter by its nature increases Spring Pressure by a ramping affect. With it welded this affect isnt happening, hence the need for heavier springs. As you pointed out with heavier springs you need the slave support.
Not sure about the bolt lengths might be something do with the later Cushion Mod.
If you not launching at higher RPMs probably no need to change your BTL. Cushion Mod will make a nice difference though.
Hope that helps!

Q- do you have to fit heavier springs?
A- No
Comment- You will have to fit spring spacers with stock springs to compensate for the missing axial travel in the BTL assembly. Unfortunately you will have to pull the clutch lever against the increased spring force.

I am looking to do the mod of making my '99 clutch to a K3+ namely with the anti judder spring and seat, Ive heard this vastly improves on the 'grabiness' of the pre K2 clutches. (thats one thing I have always hated in the busa the on and offness of those early clutches not being to slip them well.)
I guess when my BTL was welded up he added those washers hence not on parts list to make the springs a bit stiffer. Always wondered where those washers came from. So if Im changing springs I might as well go for the aftermarket HD ones. (will first check existing once with tolerance levels)
The newer bolts I believe are 2mm longer. Thats why I was wondering about its housings.
Abusa, what do you mean by 'cushion mod'? the springs?
Im suprised many here havent done these mods to the earlier bikes.

ic from that link what you mean. bit pricey there, can get judder spring and seat and that fibre one for under $50 OEM and springs at around $40 OEM. so hard to see where theyre price is on.

Volvi if ya get those heavy duty cltch springs you are gonna absolutely hate driving in traffic just change the first clutch fiber to an 02 one and get the 2 springs that go with it the difference in the clutch was amazing in my 00 but now with the heavy springs all that has gone out the window Shayne can get the springs in for you and Canadian Mike can do the Slave support upgrade hehehe

I have both done to mine, welded hub, suzuki:- spring, seat and larger ID fibre plate.
Historically from what I can decipher, Brock came up with his "clutch cushion" first. Suzuki changed it slightly and incorporated those changes in 02 models and onward.

yea Bill, am inclined to stick with the oem springs softer on my poor performing wrists and guess I shud reuse the washers to stiffen them up a bit.
was horrified to learn the prices of fibres and steels, will go through my lot to see if theyre within tolerance. Though...........you know on those early fibre discs they had some half holes up top on their teeth. Ive noticed a few of them have those holes chipped away.....into my ruddy clutch basket, do the newer fibres have those frikin half holes I can only presume they were meant assist with oil flow into discs??
