Need new clutch plate ;(

HI Guys,

Finally, time has come that I need new clutch plate - scanned ebay - no luck, can some one recommend a place where I can buy oem clutch at inexpensive price.

They are cheap from the dealers mate. I suggest you get the stock ones.

Called Savage for parts;

Got a quote of $ 468 for Clutch - Fiber and Metal Plates and Heavy Spring.

On the exp side, I dont want to buy from US - want the business to stay in AUS - even though its a small amount - any thing to help the economy - till the time its reasonable.

Can I get it any cheaper any where?

Is Savage a Suzuki Dealer?
I did my Gen I clutch kit from the dealer in Newcastle for $187 plus fitting.
You only need a couple of wear plates to bring it back to life unless it is damaged.

Hi Busgo,

Its a perfectly fine running machine just the clutch bark for the pre 01 model and the 78000 KM is why I am changing these.

:)

Can you check with your dealer or give me the number to call, let see if the shipped once are cheaper.

Savage is a Suzuki Dealer here in WA.

Mine was a 99 model. I gave all my service records and invoices to the new owner when he bought the bike.
Suzuki of Newcastle did the work along with the shims check and a major service at about 100,000 ks in about November 07.

I suggest you ping Simmo. He is replacing his clutch plates on a regular basis these days.

$468 sounds a bit high!

You might not need new steels unless they are warped.

To check if they are warped you can polish one lightly over fine wet n dry on something very flat, ie piece of glass, warping shows up pretty easy.

Use OEM fibres, but I wouldn't bother with heavy springs Not needed in my opinion unless theres some other problem..

I would also recommend using the cushion set out of an later model, its basically a few odd looking plates/rings that go at the rear of the pack, makes it much nicer.

Measuring up the total height of the pack you took out, and comparing to what you are putting in isnt a bad idea too. (There are a number of different thickness plates avail if you need to adjust)

As Dave said, onlyreplace the fibres unless steels are warped, they dish when over heated and the clutch will not disengauge properly, can be seen clearly if stacking the steels together, a warped one will give a gap at the edges
+1 on the inner plate and cushion from a 01-07.
Some aftermarket sets around , i prefer std but for normal street use the aftermarket may be ok.
Shayne at Cyanide racing may be able to get some for you (Abusa ) or
Rob Cassar is selling some on Ebay, under the name of Ballistic racing,

Thank you for the information, just sorted the Battery Yausa OE from Battery world is 139 $ - picking it up today.

still thinking on the Clutch, question is do I need 8 + 1 (fiber) or 8+2 plates.

Got the battery - oh - what a difference - btw the battery which I replaced was the orginal from the bike.

Is the clutch actually slipping? If not, I'd leave it except for updating with the bits mentioned above. Mines a 99 and I've added the bits above, but I also got rid of the BTL action and as part of that got stiffer springs for drag racing. But if you're not troubled by the odd un-intentioned wheelstand, then leave the BLT action alone.

There is no clutch slipping of any kind, I ride to work daily. Only thing which I noticed in the recent days was that the clutch engages instantly when I put the bike in gear - not like before that I have to letgo 1/3 of the lever to let the bike move and then there is the clutch bark of pre 01 bike.

I am also thinking of only changing the fiber plates and heavy springs - I want this beast to stand on one wheel - currently its Not doing it. :)

Slippage sounds like worn fibres, so that's a good move plus the extra inboard plate mentioned above.
Normal clutch has plenty of grunt to do wheelies, and there's heaps of threads on BLTs. There's also a weakness in the sprocket cover (plenty of threads on this subject too). Basically it's a very light casting and flexes. I could feel mine flex once I got the heavier springs. Quite a few cases of the casting breaking. So I went billet for the cover and that also solved another weakness, the seal on the slave cylinder (plenty of threads on dirty clutch oil all the way back up to the master cylinder). When you ditch the BLT, the stad springs are not compressed as much as they used to be. About 3mm, so to compensate you need to shim, or you get heavier springs of the right length. With the kit I bought, I got the springs. The kit had the solid inner hub that eliminates the BLT, but you can get the original welded up. Then you need spacers etc. If you want to see it all in the flesh I can show you mine and explain it all.
