Front Sprocket Thread
#1
Is the thread on the front chain sprocket a left hand or a right hand thread. I want to make sure i'm not tightening it when in fact I'm trying to get it of.

I'd like to offer some advice Phil but the service manual that I have does not mention anything other then the torque specs.
Others who have actually removed their sprocket should be able to help you.
(The correct torque is 145nm or 105ft/lb for retightening)

Some of our members seem to know much more than those who right the service manuals so you should be assisted promptly.

I do suspect that it is a normal right hand thread though, otherwise it would be undoing itself as you ride along.

as maj said, I have found all nuts to be the same. clockwise tighten, anti clockwise loosen. the only time one may get confused is when loosening the notorious sump plug coz its upside down ie bolt in upwards and sometimes a brain fart will occur and many strip the thread, happened to me once.

Thank you maj and Volvi,

Tried undoing it with my whoppin great ratchett handle, nearly flipped the bike over! I've got a mate coming over with rattle gun to get the bugger of.

I usually use a breaker bar with a long pipe extension, have someone sit on the bike with the brake on at the same time.

Rattle gun is the way to go. I always change the sprocket at my mechanic's workshop with the rattle gun. I found it was impossible without it!
