The Black and Purple rises from the ashes!
#1
Ryan and I started taking the broken motor our of his Black and Purple yesterday, wotrked until fairly late and will get going again today after lunch. He took a few photos as we started the pull-down. We'll put them up a ;little later. The installation of the rep;lacement motor goes on.

Of interest the Pair vacuum line that come from number 4 and down to the front of the motor broke as we were taking it out. Baked as hard as hell and brittle to boot. This may be offering an early indication of serious heat issues that may or may npot have lead to the brake-up of the motor.

Interesting indeed! This is one of the first times I've heard of a Gen 1 motor getting cooked, so it will be interesting to see what you discover...

Got the motor out and after taking the pair valve gear off the front you can see that this motor has "thrown a Rod" You can see the edge of a conrod in the hole wedged into the front of the broken cases. At that stage we took thr old motor outside and began woirk on getting the new motor in. It's in now, I'm just tensioning the mounting bolts while Ryan cleans the chain lube and crud off the outside of the water pump area.

More to come.

Wow a rod! From what I understand this is not a high mileage motor is it?
Smoke me a kipper I'll be home in time for breakfast

No Steve, we think the motor only had 32K on it, and looking at the externals have no reason to doubt those figures. The internals may bring us to a different conclusion if and when we run a post-mortem on her.
We have picture to put up guys. As she came out and the new mill going in. It's gone very smoothly with my rooted old knees being the main impediment on goingany quicker as the job progresses.

I'd love to hear if you ever pull the old mill down, just how it through that rod at 32k. As I'm sure alot of others would. Great pics guys. Am I right in seeing that it punched the hole right at the point of where barrel meets block-so only the headcasting is reusable??
