60' / 1/8 times
#1
Hey guys and girls. I am trying to calc my 60' times before I hurt something. At what 1/8 will I be running around 1.40s? Can anyone give us some times to work with, please. I'm running stock sump, can't run an aftermarket one with my pipe. Getting one made soon (money) Want to race but not if I'm going to hurt the bike. We have run 6.3 on track with no traction and will go quicker. If we go to a prepped track much quicker. However we don't even Know what 6.30 equals at 60. Any help would be appreciated.

You really cant calculate your 60' time from your 1/8th time, there are way too many variables, mph, wheel spin, clutch set up, clutch slip, launch, boost, horse power, etc.
As a guide have a look at what similar bike set ups are running, that will give you an idea of where you should be at.
A 1.4 is a pretty good 60', you have raced how many times? I reckon you will be very surprised at what you actually do.

Thanks Cas. But that's why I'm asking. To find out. No one I know does race, except at Casino. I understand the above and am looking for the nearest base line. On the Yankee forums nothing makes sense. I'm hoping Some Busa club members will give us some numbers to work with. We are at least mid 5's with traction. I know we can leave a lot harder. We are still at stock height. But as I said earlier we don't want to hurt the bottom end. I figure Guess approx 260/70 hp at the moment. Flat slick. Never raced Bikes on strip before, thats why we are chasing info. If I'm no where near it we will keep going.

Even trying to guesstimate with just your HP figure is hit and miss, there are NA bikes that are making that much HP they run 8 second 1/4's with 1.3-1.5 60's. Where you might be slower out of the hole but once boost starts making power you will mph like all f*** the further you go.
Your best bet, put it on a trailer and head to WSID or Willowbank for a test and tune, its the only way you will find out your split times, where you need improvement, etc.

Thanks Cas. I know it is 260/ 270. Iknow we can run high eights eventually. Maj built the bike. I'm seeing 300 kph before I shut down at the end of the strip. I can dial up to 16lb. Only running 12 at the moment. 10 hp per 1lb. I can't afford tech, leathers etc yet. Spent the money on the house when Bedourie was put off. Ride bike to the local. Bring the slick in ther car. No trailer to Wilow at the moment. $$$. By Chrissy different. I do believe there must be some correlation between 60 and 1/8th though. If people can post some times it would help me out though.

At the All Bike I ran a lazy 1.53 60' - a slow 1/8 5.80@127 - 1/4 8.93@154 turbo bike 270hp standard clutch, no air shifter. With more traction comes more issues, I now have a list a mile long of things i need to change. All the hp in the world wont mean jack if its not setup, you need to start racing and then ask questions. Some of the other guys that race have gone above and beyond to help they truly are a great bunch.

Thanks for the advice. Those times along with the Data Iv'e gathered from sites tells me I'm glad that I did ask Q's before I went to Willow. Because I know once I get to a track I will say it will be alright and keep ringing it's neck. I would't be able to help myself. But now I'm definately not going until I do something with the sump. I would rather wait till I have the money for that than rebuild a bottom end. Those numbers were what I needed. Thanks.

The sump shouldnt be a problem either.
Have you shortened your fork legs or just pulled the forks up through the triple trees?
If you have pulled them up, just pull them back down and use a strap you wont hit the sump.
If they are shortened internally they wont travel far enough for the sump to hit the ground.

Sorry Cas, I didn't articulate properly mate. You may think it's weird me asking all theses Q's and haven't run a quarter on a bike yet. I have however run 8.62 in a cage back in 1984. I just don't want to throw money away. I was informed by Maj that at 1.42 @ 60'. The stock sump runs dry thus screwing bottom ends. That's why I have been asking. Casino has NO grip. I am resonably confident that during the first night, now thanks to your info and others. That if we don't run 1.42, I will flip the bike. I will be pissed off with myself if I dont do one or the other. As it will mean I'm getting soft / old or both. I don't want that to enter my pysche, and also Because I'm not too bright, and I wont back off. It's also why I have so many broken bones. Love it. Pain is only weakness leving your body. I keep telling myself. It's taken me a lot of years to come to terms with this so I'm going to make sure I don't hurt the bike. It's worth more than me. It's not about ground clearance thoughLol2Lol2. Pi_thumbsup

Do you have a baffle in your sump? They are easy enough to make, or cheap enough to buy and a piece of piss to install.
Mate Im not being rude, but I really think you are over estimating your capabilities. I can gaurentee you arent going to run anywhere near a 1.42 60' on your first run down the strip.
Legend has been racing for years and runs consistant low 1.4's, 1.3's on good days. He is by far the best no bar drag racer in this counrty so I dont see you heading out to beat his records off the trailer.
You seem to be complicating this too much by over thinking it, get it on a track see what it does, then you will at least have a base line for where to go next.

Im hearing you Cas but I'm seeing time slips from other racers below 1.40. They are photos of slips and I dont think they are fake. And they are not Leonards. I would have thought he is running quicker times than that, and I may be wrong. But that means the times people are showing me are fake. When the Pingel is on and a few other things I will take it. I might actually not work for a weekend. People have been talking about the lists they now have. I already have mine. Ive also got 3 boys with needs so just going up the strip to get no where is a waste of time to me. If I'm slow as you have already said I will be, I'm slow. I just won't be making excuses. it wil only be because of me. I'm comfortable with that, totally. And I'm sure no one else is going to pay for a new bottom end if I fluke it. And then hurt it.Our motor has over 45000 turbo kms on it, plus what was on it before hand. So we will look after it. Iv'e seen timeslips from aspirated bikes running under 1.40. So what you have said has me confused. Maj isnt as quick as Legend. Yet gave me the info from his experience, so I have to question where your numbers come from. No there is no baffle in the sump. Thats the whole purpose of the questions in the first place. Everybody has a different idea. Once again thats why Ive asked.
So far a guy has been racing and setting up a bike for over 2 years at the local track. Very well sorted. We have raced 3 meets and smashed the track record. But its not the real deal and we know that. But we are happy about the way we approach things. We would even love it more if some of you better guys come and help improve things.

Yeah, just disregard what I have said mate, youll be right. Leave it in your shed and tell people how it is gunna run the numbers because you have seen other people's time slips, its a great way to race and not damage stuff.

Geez and I thought forums were about asking questions. Someone obviously, finds mine offensive. I never said I will run any time at all. For the record. I didn't realise I must race to someones elses orders, when they dictate. Forgot I'm only 50yrs old. Not in control of my own budget. I'll just throw my job away to suit others. Shame on me. Enjoy you racing mate. I will look after mine. Thanks for the advice. Love all the positives of sharing the forum with you, and your aversion to parts of posts you wish to want to acknowelege.

Oh is that a hint of sarcasm in the air??
You came here asking questions, when I answered you got all antsy and say Im wrong.
So what do you want? You want truthful advice? Or do you want someone to blow smoke up your arse because you ride a turbo bike?
Either way Im done mate, this is the reason why anyone who has or does actually race hasnt replyed to your posts, because guys like you dont want to hear the truth. Good luck with your bike mate, youre gunna need it.
