Hello all, This is my first attempt at this, so if I ball's it up please advise.I have an early Bus with a few k's on and only yesterday when I fired the ol girl up after a couple of minutes it was down a cylinder. Took er for a spin to clear but not happening. So off with sides etc and airbox as plugs are always a good indicator. Well 3 looked slightly fouled, 4 was wet as the proverbial, and was the colder exh pipe so as isolate which cylinder. I bead blasted the lot and back together and voila, all back on four. Does this occur often with a longer use of the manual choke ,and have the gen 2 gone to a fully computerised fuel system. Next, What coolant do all you guys use as my bike shop info here is a liitle vague, and I am starting to pick thru a full service procedure,Other than that am starting to enjoy this bike.
I will up load some pics soon. As a point of interestr I have a contact name and phone for a full custom body work and plastics [skulls and flames ]but nice nick, from the previous owner/executor to be sold. Cheers.

I'm not sure why plugs die when they do but I just change them every 15000 odd and be done with it. Never bothered cleaning any, I just toss them out. The one that was wet was wet because it wasn't firing and burning the gas. If it had been it probably would look like all the others.
BTW, what grade of fuel are you running? 98?

Hi Biggsy.
for your question of choke the Gen1 choke is actually just a fast idle it doesnt alter fuel mix like the olden chokes it just revs the bike up. the Gen2 has this fast idle lever removed if i remember correctly.

Shell 98 but upon looking thru all sites for info there seem to be some issue even with some Ducati owner I work with. Had a similar issue with a Honda Bol'Dor after a restoration. All did was only use the choke then till it fired and blipped the throttle on and off till warm. my 1098 Duc owner only runs 95 octane as advised by his service guy. Think will try the same. good chat/reply.

I got burnt out plugs on 98 too, Biggsy, only use 95 now. Perhaps this new bike of mine, GenII, can compensate but why should I bother when 95 works so well. I only run 98 in my 1977 hiace camper. Those old engines were designed to run on "Super" and you definately need the extra power there lol.

I think you might find that it is an "enricher" circuit, like on my zzr. A choke chokes off the airflow via a baffel arrangement whereas an enricher pours more fuel into the ports, making the mixture a lot richer. Both will cause the engine to run faster.
