make sure you put some good padding on the stock, coz if you unload the lot in one blast, your shoulder ain't gonna look too good! Hopefully the pig will look a lot worse!

Just make sure you hit them side on,unless they,re slugs of course. .I,ve always wondered how they designed a lever action shotgun,as the shells come out longer than they went in,the opposite of the norm.

Shot guns are fun but I prefer my 30/30 with 16" barrel for pigs

I once used a 30/30 lever action, 16" barrel on a pig. All it did was bounce off his chest plate and irritate him. A lot.

The second slug penetrated mid-flank, but apart from pissing him off even more didn't seem to have much effect. Just wheeled around, screamed a lot and eventually, charged the ute.

Before he got there I'd swapped weapons and hit him with a solid slug out of a 12 gauge right thru the spine (from above). Party over. Somehow he still managed to complete his charge (but with a lot less gusto) and end up under the ute just in front of the rear tyre (which was 3 inches off the ground at that point). Took us an hour to dig the bastard out.

Moral of story ?

LOL, well once the adrenaline starts those buggers wont give up.

But I still prefer a rifle over a shotgun as I like to have the option of a longer ranged shot.

ahh the old m77 with sporter barrel.3 shot wonder until the barrel gets red hot.Makes you a better shot when you know you,ve only got 3 before the fourth ones a flyer. Those goats take a bit of stopping too. Glenn the Spa Man

Glen it will place first 4 shots under 1" with 5-6 opening up to around 1" 1/2 so I am more than happy with that even for bunny busting ;)

Sounds like you,ve got it sorted.Not using hot loads helps too i suppose.When dad had one we really only had 75 grain (i think) solids and 85 grain hollow point boatails.The latter would leave a 5 inch exit hole in a fox.I used to tan the pelts,stitch up the hole and sell them at school. .We currently have a 243 with a bdl action and a ruger no1 6mm heavy barrel.I didn,t miss much with that on the last trip.After using a 300 weatherby it makes you appreciate the mild recoil. The next goal is combine bikes and guns.A postie with a nobby on the back.
