I put on a K&N Filtercharger high flow and didn't have a problem.

Are the k & n filters worth it? Regards,

I got a BMC street filter no probs running it. It will make a diff if properly remapped and running a 4-1 and its re-usable which means you save $$$ in the long run. Worth the bucks IMHO.

Longer lasting, re-usable and better flow than stock, for about $120. I think stock was around $100 (???).
Have always found K&N to be better options than OEM. Don't really notice a change (economy or power), but a dyno would probably pick up something (very small i imagine, but must be an improvement over stock) Peter Altas BUSA-1

When I got my k&N filter I felt it sounded a bit more grunty
and I throught it picked up a touch in speed but that me my 2c worth.

have u guys had your air box mod done?

Nup, have heard that it's not worth it as you lose mid-range power.

Yep have heard that rumour also,:"> :"> but then I've seen the before and after dyno runs and know that the same rumour is a crock o shit. Actually it's the cheapest 4 Hp gain you'll obtain for your money with NO loss in mid range. Funny how these rumours start, especially when they are never followed with any proof. Tell you what I'd say that if you took your bike over to Pete's Pitstop and had it modded, if there was no increase in Hp across the whole rev range he'd firstly supply you with a new stock air box and secondly give you your money back.
Don't believe every thing your told, ask for some proof as it can save you a lot of money usually.

Had air box mod done a while back and with a BMC 'racer' filter, great stuff, no mid range loss, no re-mapping and no fiction, definately more throatier yep Linda Lovelace hard at work. I personally think BMC is the way to go rather than K&N, but both are good.

i've done a few of these air box mods on busas with my 'dremmel' tool and it seems to make the engine feel and sound a bit gruntier when cutting loose, not too difficult to do and you definitely don't need any other adjustments, or re-mapping, so don't waste your money do it yourself if you are handy and know your way around tools, and i agree with volvi, bmc works great..... word of caution! this mod is not reversible unless you buy a new airbox... if you aren’t confident about doing the job, ballsy in sunshine tel 93648993 can definitely help you out...

Once this mod is done, can "ballsy" dyno and remap the the bike to see if there is any difference?

Sense at last. Well put fasterfaster. BMC race air cleaner, air box mod then a remap. The mid range top end made a HUGE difference and definately showed up on Petespitstop's dyno. Better still in the real world the trouble I had was the pick up improved so much I kept hitting the rev limiter. (Ram air etc...) And I still do at times now. (Eh, rev01?) Maybe my reflexes are a bit slower to since I hit 40.
Forget the crap and the urban myths. JUST DO IT! Cheers, Phil. Riding not talking.

as i said gforce, NO NEED to remap, so why waste your time and money on a dyno when it has been well documented that it does make a difference, but as phil said, it's the real world that counts .... and not the dyno..........

Ok, but what's exactly involved in the air box mod? I'm pretty handy and can get my hands on a dremel....
I'm sure it was Ballsy that suggested not doing the air box mod because of the loss across the mid range. I'm definetely a goer with the dyno's. Can't beat that for rock solid, in ya face, black and white (or color) PROOF. Wouldn't trust anyone to remap an ecu without doing a pre and post dyno run. Same goes for any mod. How else are you going to know it was worth it and that your engine is performing better? Is Pete's dyno a Dynodynamics?? What does he charge (approximately) to do an initial power run (then add the mods), a second run, then remap accordingly, and a third post run? Is this the process? Peter Altas BUSA-1 |
