My K9.... put on race spec pads and rotors, hell braided lines, 5.1DOT fluid and at the track here in Perth I would only get about 4 laps before the lever went soft, and came all the way back to the bars. Every track day the same thing.
Replaced with brembo RC19, almost double the bore, and heaps more pressure at the wheel.

Problem solved.

Biggest improvment by far.

stock master I feel, just lacks that bits, and feel. Very disappointing they didn't up grade it with the Gen2.

Just my thoughts.

We are sort of comparing pears with apples as you are using OEM calipers. What you have described can be related more to them than the master cylinder. Assuming the same force is acting on both pistons the bigger diameter piston will only give you more fluid volume but will decrease the pressure at the calipers. That is just the law of physics and that is why in your hydraulic jack the handle is moving small piston while the big one is doing the lifting of the car. If your lever increased the travel so much as to start touching the bar it means that your calipers have started moving apart under the pressure (brake fluid is practically incompressible)and you were running out of fluid volume the smaller piston provides. The Brembo master cylinder with a bigger diameter piston provides bigger volume for the same amount of stroke and that will compensate for inadequate calipers. That does not mean in any way that the OEM master cylinder is not any good as it works perfectly with a well designed rigid calipers. Biker
