I know everyone has their way of doing things but are you using full throttle in first yet?If you are and youre not getting wheelies maybe a 16 tooth may help.It will allow you to launch at lower revs but would mean you can,t use full throttle in first without lowering it and lots of practice.Work on your 60,330 ft times, tucking properly and consistent shift points.Below about 10.3 there isn,t many free kicks, its then down to rider technique.Buys shares in you local drag strip and make friends with your local tyre man.Shinko ultrasoft 190.

well I run a 45 rear and dont find it too bad... does 1 down on the front make more of a difference than 5 up on the back (or is it 4???)

1 tooth front equals approx 2.5 rear.I,m still at stock gearing, lowered and weighted down and with a highish launch rpm it still comes up.Try both but each change will send you backwards before you go forwards.Set the bike up and leave it alone so you can get confident riding the bike and not have it ride you.At stock height you,d be mad to shorten the gearing for the drags anyway.Whatever you do leave it and learn it or you,ll take alot longer to get good times. It only took me a year to learn that one.

I mainly changed it so I could have a little more fun... still haven't tried the whole bike drag racing thingy yet but I'll be at heathcote as a spectator on Saturday so I might get the bug...
dont really want to since the cars costing me enough as it is...

If you leave the chain alone, 43 rear will fit and will bring the rear axle forward = wheelies. 16 front and stock 40 rear moves the axle further back = less geardown and less wheelie tendancy than a 43 rear. 16 front is murder on the chain.

Well had to use the rattle gun to get the sprocket off but the 16 tooth is now on. Yes it wheelies alot easier and harder to launch keeping the front wheel on the ground. Mufflers off I managed a 10.3 at Heathcote with a front strap which helps heaps and was just starting to really get the hang of it then racing for the day stopped. Not sure if the 16 tooth front is much of an improvement though.

When you get good, you'll need more torque to get off the line smartly and consistently, this means more rpm which makes it difficult to do. Try getting away from a traffic light from a standstill in 3rd gear! easier to do in 2nd gear, easier still in first and no guessing, better still with 16 teeth up front.

I'd agree with you though my 60 ft times haven't really improved but the end of run times have...so not to sure where I improved.
