frankly carrying bedding and food on a bike is a bit off putting, for me at least. I realise that there would be less ferrel lodging in Ballarat but then its a night ride to the site and back and perhaps on gravel road, just some of my immediate thoughts. Maybe some of those points have put others off?

With regard to extra space, I'm gunna have to take the car to transport my scope. (fills the boot & the back seat) I'm quite happy to load up with anyone elses gear. Can easily hook on the trailer if required. So pleny of space for the sleeping bags, esky's etc if required.

Other than that, for food, there is the Snake Valley pub about 1klm away.

Time for some decisions.
DATE: Sat 8th Sept.
PLACE: Snake Valley Astro Camp which is approx 25mins west of Ballarat.
ROADS: Sealed all the way (except for the last 100m throught the gate onto the property)
ACCOMODATION: Motel in Ballarat or the camp as previously described. (charged for a minimum of 10 if less)
FOOD: Bring your own or the Snake Valley Pub has meals.

General discription
The "Star Gazing" part of this will begin around 6pm when it's still light. All telescope owners will set up their gear. Once set up, it's a short wait until the darkness arrives. This is a good time for anyone to have a good look at the gear & ask questions etc. Once the sky is dark enough (around 7.30 or so) we'll start to check the different things that can be seen. If the moon is still up you will see views similar to the photos I've posted.
You will also see Planets (Jupiter & Venus), other galaxies, Nebula, Star Clusters, Coloured stars

There is no "Finish" time for this. (except when the sun comes up).
When I'm out with the telescope I usually get to sleep around 4am or so. That means you can stay as long (or as little) as you like.

I have discussed with the Astro Club & there should be about 7 to 10 scopes other than mine so plenty for everyone to get good "Scope Time". Some scopes are manual & some (lke mine) are computerised. Some are bigger than mine. (that's difficult for a guy to say) Lots of variety.

MEETING & RIDE
OK. I've never organised a ride before & being fairly new to Melbourne I don't know the usual / suitable meeting spots.
Can anyone help out with suggestions.
