Hey Tony, I now have at least 4 riders coming from here in SA, (Including myself and Scott W),just waiting to receive a reply from another 2 and then I will email you with all the details.
Scott's sister is coming on her bike, not sure if that's going to upset any of the accommodation plans?
Scott said he'll share rooms with her though.
Most accommodation is pub rooms where possible... All the places seem real easy to work things out with so I doubt there will be any issues, plus it looks like Heidi might be coming too?
The more the merrier, though I hate to be out ridden by a girl lol
Small update......
There are 8 confirmed riders to enjoy the roads of the gods lol
Now 12
Can anyone help? I was recently told that a bike is classed as uninsured if it being transported on a non-bike trailer and this is including a box trailer that has been adapted to carry bikes (uninsured).

Now I have read all throught my vehicle insurance and found that as long as the vehicle is approved for towing that trailer, and trailer is registered, the vehicle insurance will cover up to $1000 in damaged to trailer and all third party but no cover for what's in the trailer.

looking at my bike insurance I could not find any exclusions for being on a trailer, bike specific or not. Just have to make sure everything is legal.

The reason for asking, and I WILL be calling my insurance, is that in November I am looking at towing my bike from Tassie to WA in my converted box trailer then using that same trailer as a breakdown transports for everyone touring Tassie.

I know my trailer is very capable, design and engerineering wise, to carry up to 3 bikes. But if the bikes are not covered by any insurance then I don't want to risk it.

What's your views?
When I purchased my bike, I had to have it transported from Melbourne to Adelaide.
I insured it with Shannon's who were by far the cheapest and the most comprehensive, and I asked at the time if it would be covered in transit to which they assured me it would be.....I was never asked how it was going to be transported so I assume (yeah, I know, not safe to assume), that as long as it's done as safely as possible there shouldn't be an issue. Worth a phone call though if your worried.
I have Laid Up insurance with Shannons on my GSXR750 track bike which covers it for theft, fire etc while stored at home in the shed. It also covers it while transporting to and from the track in the trailer.
The trailer is covered when towed buy my car with comprehensive insurance and other gear in the trailer to value of $1000.
Well... after getting off phone with my bike insurers (I really dislike strongly accented call center workers) I have found the following points:
1. Trailer MUST be registered
2. there are proper securing points for the bike
3. Better if towing vehicle insurance also covers trailer
4. Bikes comprehensive insurance covers bikes in transit in Australia with no exclusions as to type of trailer.

Of the above points only 1 & 4 are really required but #2 will reduce any insurance argument about if bike was properly secure and #3 shows that if another policy is covering trailer somehow then it reduces the argument that trailer was improperly used.

I do like them working for their money and had the guy putting me on hold to answer all my very specific questions LOL
SO based on this my trailer WILL BE the break transport for any bike (up to 2 bikes at a time) but it will be the riders responsibility to have the bike insured for transit. I will make sure my trailer is road worthy, registered, covered by my vehicle insurance and have appropriate securing points (tie down loops and wheel wedges). I might have a waiver to be signed before any bike goes in trailer.
then on the other hand and speak for myself only, I have full RACV breakdown cover for all my bikes and car all round Australia, so perhaps Id have an alternative. not sure which is best but others may have that cover too. just saying.
OKay.. back to the tour LOL
